Labor M – Art Mediation

Labor M is the art education programme of Schloss Biesdorf, the municipal gallery of the Berlin district of Marzahn-Hellersdorf.

Within the different event formats, we develop approaches to contemporary art for people of all ages. We offer guided tours of the exhibitions, workshops and other events for children, adults and families and develop artistic-practical projects for schools.

Videos, digital workshops and materials on the exhibitions can be found in the media library. You are also welcome to visit our YouTube channel. But there are also offers on site – you can find them below under "Actions and Workshops".

Open Workshop: Sunprints in the Castle Park

In this workshop, participants will explore the Castle Park and take a closer look at its flora. What species grow here? What exactly do they look like?
Using cyanotype – a 19th-century photographic technique pioneered by the botanist Anna Atkins, also known as blue printing – participants will create detailed images of the flora in the Castle Park.
Limited number of places. Please register in advance.

Open Workshop: Our Castle

– please bring a personal item or object with you –

Schloss Biesdorf has been many things: a private residence, a sculptor’s studio, a village club, a library, a holiday camp and a community centre. People used to live, celebrate and learn here; today, art is exhibited here. But what else might happen here in the future?

To mark the 10th anniversary of the restoration of Schloss Biesdorf in accordance with heritage conservation principles, Labor M invites you to explore the building’s diverse historical uses, to add to them with your own imagination, and to picture yourself moving into the castle.

For the workshop, you will need to bring an object from home, from which a golden replica will be made during the session. The object should fit in one hand, have a smooth surface where possible, and not be too valuable or fragile. The resulting replicas symbolise the participants’ dreams and ideas and will be displayed as part of a small exhibition in the Heino-Schmieden Hall on the first floor of the castle.

Please note: Anyone wishing to gild their own object must attend the open workshop on two consecutive dates.

Saturday 29 August, 5 September and 12 September 2026, 3.00 pm–6.00 pm on each occasion

All „Open Workshop“ events are hosted by fluent English speakers and can be run bilingually.
