Jürgen Gerhard is a painter and graphic artist. His works are always about the formulation of an experience and finding a corresponding form, whereas this form found during the work process no longer has to refer to the original experience. In Stabhochspringer, Gerhard captures the moment of a successful jump while the athlete is still in the air.

Jürgen Gerhard (b. 1947) learnt the profession of typesetter and then studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig until 1973. He was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR. From 1986 to 1990 he was an honorary lecturer at the Fachschule für Werbung und Gestaltung in Berlin-Schöneweide. Between 2000 and 2004 he held a teaching position for figurative drawing at the Academy of Film and Television "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam. He lives and works in Oranienburg-Eden.

Rolf Xago Schröder, also known as XAGO, is an illustrator, painter and ‘word player’. His art is inspired amongst others by Paul Klee. According to XAGO, art must not begin with an idea, but end with one. The work Schutzbucht des Eisvogels shows an unusual view of an abstracted bay.

XAGO (b. 1942) studied literature, philosophy and aesthetics in Berlin until 1966. After graduating, he worked as an assistant at the Potsdam-Babelsberg Film Academy, where he came into contact with the works of Eisenstein, Fellini and Tarkowsky, providing him a lasting inspiration. XAGO contributed to over 150 books as an illustrator and designer. In 1990, he became the first democratically elected president of the Association of Visual Artists in the former GDR. In the same year, he became a member of the fictional artist group EUROPHA (EUROpäische PHantasten). He lives and works in Berlin and Friedrichsthal.

The work Metapher by painter and graphic artist Thomas Heidolph directs the view upwards, to the edge of the painting and the top of a black mountain in the landscape. Possibly a mining area in the former GDR? An airplane appears above the mountain, small and distant. The title of the work allows for many interpretations. The mountain, black as ash and the modern flying bird (the airplane) could stand for instance for the "Phoenix from the ashes“.

Thomas Heidolph (b. 1929) is a painter and graphic artist. Heidolph lived in Berlin before 1990 and was a member of the VBK-DDR. His works were presented at the VIII Art Exhibition of the GDR in 1977 and at the District Art Exhibition in Berlin in 1979 and 1981.
